Hordyk shines in final game of season for men's volleyball
Today marked the last of two things for the Briercrest men’s volleyball team: Captain Carter Reimer playing in a Briercrest uniform and the team playing in the Hangar for the 2015-2016 season. For their last game they took on Ambrose University
The match started off with Ambrose taking the lead early. Briercrest then called timeout at 6-10 to try and re-strategize. Ambrose came back stronger though and took a large lead. Briercrest responded to this well and started to battle hard and started to close the gap. The score became tied after key offensive and defensive plays made by Briercrest. After some battling back-and-forth, Briercrest was able to take the lead and claim the first set with a score of 26-24.
Briercrest carried their momentum over to the second set by taking an early lead. Ambrose didn’t allow that to last long though and came back to tie it up. Once Briercrest executed some key offensive plays they were able to stay a few points ahead. This caused Ambrose to call timeout at 16-18 to try and gain the lead for themselves. This did the trick because Ambrose was able to take a small lead on Briercrest. Briercrest then called timeout at 21-22 to try and regain the lead and keep it till the end. After some intense close plays, Briercrest was able to clench the second set with a close extended score of 27-25.
The third set started off with Ambrose taking a lead causing Briercrest to call timeout at 5-7. Ambrose continued to add to their lead causing Briercrest to call timeout once again at 11-16. Briercrest worked out to try and close the gap and was able to chip away at the score. In Ambrose’s favour, they were able to force a fourth set against Briercrest when they won 25-20.
Briercrest came into the fourth with high energy to try and end the match with a four set win. This resulted in them being able to take an early lead on Ambrose. Ambrose battled back though and took a small lead so they could try and force Briercrest into a fifth set. Briercrest worked harder though and executed prime plays causing pressure to be put on Ambrose. Ambrose took a timeout at 14-14 to try and re-gain momentum. After some rallying back-and-forth, Briercrest was able to pull ahead and keep a good distance on Ambrose. Briercrest claimed the fourth and final set of the season with a score of 25-17.
