Women's volleyball qualifies for CCAA National Championship, defeats GPRC and set to play King's in
For the first time since joining the ACAC, the Briercrest women's volleyball team has qualified for the CCAA National Championship!
The Briercrest women's volleyball defeated Grande Prairie Regional College in a thrilling five-set victory 3-2 (27-25, 23-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-8) in the semi-final of the ACAC championship Friday, Feb. 26.
The ACAC South division top ranked team Briercrest will now face North division top ranked King's University in the ACAC Championship. King's defeated SAIT 3-0 (25-18, 31-29, 25-17) on Friday.
Leader for Briercrest in the victory were Player of the Game and ACAC South Rookie of the Year Ashley Zacharias with a game high 52 assists, ACAC Player of the Year Samantha Zacharias with game highs of 22 kills and a team high 20 digs, Janae Rapley with a game high 7 service aces and ACAC All-Conference player Kathleen Bruce with a game high eight blocks. Briercrest led almost every statistical category in the game; 58-41 kills, 53-40 assists, 16-6 service aces, and 11-8 blocks. Both teams had 72 digs.
ACAC Championship game time Saturday, Feb. 27 is at 3:30 pm MST.
Both teams have qualified for the CCAA National Championships March 9-12, 2016 at Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI, so the ACAC Championship game will be for bragging rights and seeding.
