Briercrest wins ACAC gold over King's
For the first time since joining the ACAC, the Briercrest women's volleyball team played in the ACAC champioship final, and accomplished another program first in winning the ACAC women's volleyball gold medal over King's University.
In a game featuring the top team in the ACAC South in Briercrest and the top team in the ACAC North in King's the Briercrest women's volleyball defeated King's in a thrilling three-set victory 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-20) in the ACAC championship final Saturday, Feb. 27.
Leader for Briercrest in the victory were ACAC South Rookie of the Year Ashley Zacharias with a game high 33 assists, ACAC Player of the Year Samantha Zacharias with game highs of 13 kills, Janae Rapley with a game high 10 digs and ACAC All-Conference player Kathleen Bruce with a game high two blocks and five service aces. Briercrest led almost every statistical category in the game; 39-24 kills, 36-24 assists, and 10-0 service aces. King's led 38-32 digs and both teams had five blocks.
Both teams have qualified for the CCAA National Championships March 9-12, 2016 at Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI. Both teams will now wait and find out where they will be seeded for the championship and who their opponent will be!
