Marmot Basin/Hostelling International Jasper ACAC Athletes of the Week

The Briercrest women’s volleyball team won their first ACAC title this weekend, and will be travelling to their first CCAA Championship since joining the ACAC. Third-year outside hitter Sam Zacharias was a huge contributor to Briercrest’s success as she had an enormous weekend attacking and serving! After being named ACAC South Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year for the second year in a row Zacharias was named tournament MVP after being selected Player of the Game in both the quarter-final and Championship final. Zacharias had 13 kills, four service aces and two blocks in the 3-0 quarter final win over Keyano. She followed that up with a 22 kill, five ace and one block performance to defeat Grande Prairie 3-2. She finished off the weekend with a 13 kill and one service ace performance in the 3-0 gold medal win over King’s.

The Waldheim, SK native earned 62 points over the weekend for an average of 5.6 points per set! The BA Business student also was strong on defense, passing an average of 2.32 over the three matches and over 50% three passes! Her contribution on defense was awesome with 38 digs over the 3 matches for an average of 3.45 digs per set.
