Martin brings experience and speed to Briercrest Softball
Briercrest women’s softball added another BC product for the fall in Cloverdale’s Makenna Martin.
Briercrest head coach Carlie Pagens is excited for what Martin will add to the team this fall.
“Makenna brings great speed and enthusiasm to our roster,” Pagens explained. “Offensively, she is able to put the ball in play and her speed will be an asset on the bases. Defensively, she will contribute in key positions both as a pitcher and a middle infielder. Makenna takes her faith seriously and has balanced being a competitive athlete with contributing to her community and being involved in her church. Makenna is a team player with a solid work ethic. I am excited to see how she grows throughout the season.”
Martin has been playing ball from a young age.
“I've played since I was six, playing house ball up until Grade 5 where I played for a Storm A team,” Martin explained. “We competed in western worlds that year which was an unreal experience. The following year I played for Storm B team where we won provincials, another highlight of my softball career. I played up until a few years ago on that team where I finished on Cloverdale Fury 98. That team and my coaches gave me a whole new level of confidence and that's when I really started having a passion for ball. We won districts, placed in provincials and qualified and went to westerns. I grew up with all of those girls, so going through highs and lows was always as a team.”
Martin is excited to continue her career at Briercrest this fall.
“I'm beyond excited to come to Briercrest because it's going to be a whole new experience,” she said. “I can't wait to see how God’s going to use me here, for the friendships that will be created, and the growth personally, as a player, and in my faith.”
