The Briercrest College women’s soccer team won the Millar College of the Bible Invitational Soccer tournament this past weekend. The tournament was hosted at the Millar campus in Pambrun as well as in neighboring Swift Current.

The women went 2-0-1 in round robin play to win the tournament.

Women’s soccer head coach Kassi Reimer was excited by her team’s play.

“The highlight was definitely all the goals that were scored which included our players Rebecca Soggie, Sophie Comrie, Myrian Jochebelle, Abi Klassen and Shanda Quinlan,” Reimer explained. “Our net was defended well by goal-keeper, Victoria Voth and our defenders. The girls played really tough and maintained possession a lot through the game.

The Briercrest men’s team had the injury bug early on and were unable to recover going winless in the tournament.

Men’s soccer head coach Cody Vigeant had this to say about his team’s play.

“Highlights in game one were Nick Csillag scoring from about 40 yards out on a volley that went off of the crossbar and in,” Vigeant said. “In game two, Nick Csillag was sent in all alone by some hard work by Cole Wallace who got the ball by the keeper to Nick who buried one from point blank range. Josh Adrian had the performance of a life time in that game, making some unbelievable key saves early to keep us in the match allowing us to level up from being one down. Riley Trihardt had a very strong came playing Full Back and Centre Defensive Mid.

“We had four injuries in game three, but the guys gutted out a tough game for their second game that afternoon.  We finished the game with less than a full squad due to injuries, but everyone battled hard right until the final whistle.”

The Briercrest soccer teams will now be hosting Millar College of the Bible Wednesday, Sept. 21. Women play at 3:30, followed by the men at 5:15 pm.
