Briercrest Running Club performs well in first ever competition

Posted: September 26, 2016

The Briercrest College Running Club turned heads in their first ever competition this past weekend as they ran the Prairie Summit race in Buffalo Pound Provincial Park.

The running team started off their season with the first race on Sunday, Sept. 25 at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park, tackling a difficult 5km course set in the hiking trails by Buffalo Pound lake. The team received a warm reception and lots of encouraging comments from racers and spectators alike who were excited to see Briercrest enter a running team in the 5km Prairie Summit race. The runners commented that it was a very challenging course, but had a great time pushing themselves to run up the steep hills and six of nine of the runners placed in the top 10 for their age and gender categories. A great and successful start to Running Team's season.

Briercrest represented really well in both races with Rebekah Siggelkow, Amy Warnica and Sarah Groat finishing second, third and fourth respectively. Michelle Adrian finished in 13th and Katja Barnard in 23rd.  The men did also did very well with Landen Mohr and Luke Coleman finishing in second and third and Brandon Painter and Sam Hindmarsh finishing in sixth and 11th.
