Robert Adam obituary
Robert Hervé Adam, a long-time faculty member at Briercrest College and Seminary, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord on Friday, April 15, 2016 at age 90. Robert was predeceased by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Janet, in 2007. He is survived by his son, Bob (& Peggy) Adam of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Arlene Adam of Moose Jaw; and was blessed with five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
In the fall of 1950, Robert (Bob) and Janet (Jean) moved west to attend school at Briercrest Bible Institute (BBI). Both Robert and Janet completed the three-year program at BBI. After graduation, Robert was invited to join the faculty there and they returned to Caronport in the fall of 1953 where Robert began a 36-year teaching career at Briercrest. Over the years, Robert taught Old Testament Historical Books, Church History, Poetical Books, Major and Minor Prophets and Greek. He also developed some classes for what is now known as Distance Learning. In later years, while continuing to teach, Robert also served as the Registrar of the College and Director of Admissions at Briercrest.
While at BBI, Robert travelled for many summers, primarily in the Prairies, promoting the school. He studied several summers at the Winona Lake School of Theology in Indiana, completing his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He also became an ordained minister with the Associated Gospel Churches of Canada.
After his retirement from Briercrest in the summer of 1989, Robert and Janet moved to Abbotsford, BC where they spent 12 wonderful years of retirement. In 2001, they returned to Saskatchewan where they remained in the Moose Jaw area. Robert enjoyed his retirement years engaged in activities such as fishing, walking, woodworking, and later on, doing lots of jigsaw puzzles. Robert was a gentle faithful witness for his Lord while residing in care homes in his last years. Robert faithfully read his Bible several times through yearly and was an encouragement to both residents and staff that came in contact with him.
Fulfilling Robert’s wishes, the family has established the Robert and Janet Adam Memorial Bursary at Briercrest College and Seminary. Robert and Janet Adam were among the earliest married students at Briercrest, coming from Ontario with their young son in 1950. Later, in his position as Director of Admissions, Robert developed a deep love for student families while coordinating Married Student Ministries. Many people have commented on him being their first contact at Caronport, as he welcomed them to the campus. He devoted himself to helping these families settle into the Caronport community and succeed in their program of study. He took special delight in seeing many of them move on into Christian ministry. It was his desire to encourage and assist such families through the establishment of this Bursary. If so desired, memorial contributions can be made to this Bursary by contacting Briercrest College and Seminary.
