CHS Homecoming recap

Posted: September 28, 2016

Briercrest opened its doors to many old friends this last weekend as alumni joined current staff and students for the Caronport High School Homecoming. Over 300 alumni and families returned to campus to celebrate 70 years of CHS. Alumni travelled from as far away as New Brunswick and Seattle, W.A., and from as far back as 1945-46, the first high school class.

The CHS 70th Homecoming was a special weekend for many, as alumni of all ages gathered to reconnect with old friends and teachers, share stories, and celebrate God’s continued faithfulness.

“One of the most exciting parts of the Homecoming weekend was witnessing those who reconnected with classmates, and as well as those who made new friends with alumni from varied generations,” said Marilyn Muller, chief advancement officer at Briercrest. “Hearing the laughter, the stories of dorm experiences, and witnessing life-long friendships made while at CHS was truly inspiring.”

For many alumni, their time at CHS was spiritually formative and a key point in their life story.

Carl Sowden (CHS ’72) shared why the weekend was significant for him.

“I went the four years of high school here. The school and the teachers and the staff made a huge impact on me—basically the foundation for my spiritual life ever since,” Sowden said. “To see their efforts and the efforts of the people through the 70 years being honoured and inviting all former students back—that’s pretty special.”

Briercrest looks forward to hosting more alumni events in the near future.

“We value any and all feedback, and are sorry that some missed hearing about the weekend,” Muller said. “In order for this to not happen again, especially for the next homecoming or future alumni events, we would love to have you send us your current address, as well as connections to others who perhaps were missed because we have out-of-date addresses.”
