Morales stars as Briercrest completes the sweep of Olds
The second game of the weekend Briercrest took the game in three sets against the Olds College Broncos making the score 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-22). In the last home game of the semester Briercrest took the game, making it their second straight win.
Briercrest started with a strong offense in the first set with huge kills by Brad Harms and Bryan Fountain, bringing the early lead. Briercrest continued to solidify with offense with three service aces by Mitch Erickson, followed by a massive hit by Brad Harms, solidifying Briercrest’s 17-6 lead. Olds pushed back after a timeout with kills by Tarren Dion, but it was not enough the pull out the win. Briercrest took the set with a score of 25-17.
In the second set, Briercrest cemented an early lead with many huge hits, and service aces by Calvin Sawatzky and Bryan Fountain. Briercrest further cemented the lead with Calvin Sawatzky serving an ace. Olds took a timeout to try and close the gap between the two teams but Briercrest picked up their defense, with multiple blocks, bringing the score to 20-8. To finish the set Matt Ginter served an ace to took the final point, with the set ending in a score of 25-10.
Briercrest started out strong in the final set against Olds, with two service aces by Ben Rosewarn. Olds fought back tying the score 3-3 with an impressive tip by Connor Compton. After two impressive aces by Bryan Fountain, Olds called a timeout, resulting in renewed energy for the Broncos. Olds again managed to tie up the set with strong defense, but ultimately fell to Briercrest’s strong offense. The final score of the set was 25-22.
Both teams played strong sets, with the final set being quite close. However, Briercrest ultimately prevailed in the three sets played.
