Olney stepping down from Briercrest women’s basketball at the end of the year

Briercrest women’s basketball head coach, Dwight Olney, will be stepping down from his position at the end of the season.

Olney has served as head coach since the 2015-16 season. He has helped grow the program and has strengthened its position within the athletic department.

Athletic Director Nigel Mullan said Olney’s passion for Briercrest and the athletic department has been greatly appreciated and will be missed.

“We have enjoyed having Dwight in the department for the last couple of years,” Mullan said. “His desire to care for those he worked with and coached was apparent and I am sure will be missed.  I have appreciated Dwight's perspective that he brought to the department as we have tried to continue to move things forward.  His ability to take things in stride has been a great asset to us.  We wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Olney’s resignation timeline is flexible, as he wants to help make the transition as seamless as possible.

“I am grateful for having had the opportunity to coach at this level and work with high quality young women who love Jesus and love the game I love,” Olney said. “Every piece of life’s puzzle is part of the journey. My experience in Briercrest Athletics has made me a better person, having had the chance to do something quite special, something very few people get to do.”

The search for a new coach will begin immediately.

More information will be released as it becomes available. Any questions regarding the women’s basketball program moving forward should be directed to Nigel Mullan at nmullan@briercrest.ca
