“Came in ties, left tied”

Briercrest College came in with a new mentality today, ready to take it all this weekend demonstrating more discipline against Portage College. They had a quick start getting the first goal of the game at 3:24, from Kailum Gervais assisted by Luke Warkentin and Jordan Harder. Harder continued to produce points and scored at 11:22 from Kailum Gervais and Luke Warkentin. Portage College came back with a goal at 14:51 during a 5-on-3. The goal was scored by Jesse Parker, assisted by Matt Donnelly and Richard Cameron making the score 2-1 for Briercrest. Portage College scored the tying goal from Carson Johnstone from Richard Cameron. Shortly after, Johnstone scored again, taking the lead with assists from Jesse Parker and Daniel Chudobiak This left the score 3-2 for Portage College going into the 2nd period.

The 2nd period had a slow start, until Portage College scored at 11:15 during 4-on-4 play. The goal was scored by Donnelly with assists from Jarvis and Cameron extending their lead to two. The period was an even battle fighting back and forth for possession but ending with Portage College ahead 4-2.

After letting the anticipation build, Briercrest started their comeback with 9:31 remaining in the 3rd period after a goal from Tristan Hermanson making the score 4-3, with the assists to Josh Anderson and Arlyn Semeschuk. Josh Peters’ goal tied the game, assisted by Ricky Seidel and Jacob Baribeau at 15:19. Both teams went into overtime and then double overtime, continuing the two-day pattern with the score at 4-4.

Although Briercrest put up a good effort in the overtime periods, they were unable to put one in the back of the net. The game ended 4-4 with both teams earning one point for their playoff pursuit. Player of the game for Briercrest went to Luke Warkentin for two assists.
