Peterson and Zacharias sisters named 2016-17 ACAC South Team All-Conference

Briercrest had a trio of Briercrest women’s volleyball players, in Karina Peterson, Ashley Zacharias and Samantha Zacharias, who were recognized as ACAC South division All-Conference players at the ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championship Banquet at Lakeland College Wednesday night.

Second-year middle Karina Peterson led Briercrest with 35 blocks (ninth in the ACAC), ranked second on the team with 136 kills (fifteenth in the ACAC) and 221.5 points (10th in the ACAC), and third with 49 service aces (4th in the ACAC) and had seven assists and 52 digs.

The Weyburn, SK native is studying in the BA Business Administration program.

Second-year setter Ashley Zacharias quarterbacked Briercrest’s offense again this year. She led the ACAC with 730 assists while also chipping in with 35 service aces (fourth highest on the team and sixth in the ACAC), 140 digs (third on the team and 23rd in the ACAC), 33 kills, seven blocks and 75.5 points.

Zacharias has helped the Briercrest women’s volleyball team set all-time records for wins each of her seasons at the college.

The Waldheim, SK native is in the BA Business Administration program.

Along with being selected as an All-Conference member, fourth-year outside hitter Samantha Zacharias was also named ACAC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year for the third year in a row.

Zacharias led the CCAA with aces with 99, kills with 347 and points with 495.5. She also ranked second on Briercrest with 178 digs, and had 14 assists and 13 blocks.

Zacharias has helped the women’s volleyball team set program records for wins each season she has played at Briercrest.

The Waldheim, SK native is studying in the BA Business Administration program.
