Women's Volleyball Assistant Coach

JOB SUMMARY
The Women’s Volleyball Assistant Coach will have a desire to grow in and live out our Core Values, while providing leadership to student-athletes to empower them to grow in living out our Core Values. They will plan and execute strategies and methods, in collaboration with the rest of the Briercrest Athletic Department, to carry out our Core Focus within the Women’s Volleyball Program.
This is a part-time salary position, based out of the Athletic Department. The position has a yearly rhythm of requiring a much higher time commitment during the following times:
- In season from the end of August through Mid-March
- June and July, when the program runs their summer sports camp
- There is a lower time commitment from Mid-March through end of May/beginning of June and August
The assistant coach will be expected to put in the following hours throughout the year
- End of August through the beginning of December: 20-25 hours per week – focus pre-season and in-season
- December: 5-10 hours per week
- Beginning of January through mid-March: 20-25 hours per week – focus in-season
- Mid-March through end of May: 10-15 hours per week – focus is recruitment and preparing for camp
- June: 20 hours a week – focus is preparing for camp
- July: 40 hours a week - directing girls clipper volleyball camps
- August: 0-5 hours a week
QUALIFICATIONS
- Agreement to live within the Briercrest Institutional Covenant and align with the mission, vision, and values of Briercrest Christian Academy, College, and Seminary
- A desire and commitment to be a follower of Jesus Christ as a way of life
- Committed to continual growth in our Core Values and carrying out our Core Focus.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred
- Has completed or is completing appropriate NCCP certifications and any required coach education or training for being an Assistant Volleyball Coach in the ACAC
- College/University/Pro level volleyball coaching experience or relevant playing experience is an asset
- An appreciation of post-secondary education and an understanding of the academic demands on our student athletes
- Able to utilize technology effectively, i.e., stats programs, video analysis, social media.
- Possesses, or can readily learn the administrative, technical, and financial skills needed to be successful in the role
- Innovative and collaborative approach to carrying out all of the desired outcomes below

Assist with Development & Retention of Current Student-Athletes for the College Program:
- Assisting with intentionally developing our student-athletes in all areas of our Core Focus: effective discipleship, character formation, leadership development, inspiring academic excellence, and growing skills for life
- Building professional relationships with athletes to help athletes feel valued as a person in addition to being an athlete in our program
- Assis with regular evaluation of how each athlete in the program is growing on and off the court, in our Core Values, and in reaching their potential through our Core Focus
- Participate in beginning, mid, and end of season athlete meetings
Assist with Recruitment of New Student-Athletes for the College Program:
- This includes selling our Briercrest & Briercrest Athletics product (Core Values & Core Focus) and individual team experience to attract the right recruits in filling the team roster each year
- Assisting with developing and growing a recruiting pool that leads to signing student-athletes and awarding athletic scholarship to those that:
- Desire to grow in and live out our Core Values and Core Focus
- Commit to living by Briercrest’s Student Responsibilities and Expectations
- Have the talent, skills, and potential to help the team compete for championships
Assist with Performance Management for the College Program:
- Assisting with wise macro and micro season planning, effective daily planning and implementation of training, teaching, and coaching to empower athletes towards top performance in areas such as: skill development (technical, tactical, physical, mental, emotional) and systems implementation and development
- Assisting with regular measurement through team and individual stats to track progress of team and individual performance, along with assessment of coaching, training, and teaching methods
- Assist with booking team meals, hotels, transportation, and team bonding activities
Assist with Creation & Implementation of Effective Game Strategies for the College Program:
- Knowing our team's strengths and weaknesses through taking and analyzing comprehensive stats
- Assisting with video analysis and scouting reports on upcoming opponents to use strategies and systems to minimize their strengths and take advantage of their weaknesses
- Assisting with making in-game adjustments based on statistical data and observations during each competition, including effective use of time-outs and set-breaks.
- Empowering athletes through training and in match conversation to make the best decisions they can in the flow of the game
Assist with Development & Management of the College Program Fundraising by bringing in donations and sponsorships, and facilitating external programming such as camps, skill training sessions, club etc.
Direct & Execute the Women’s Volleyball External Programs:
- This includes directing & administrating the external programs (Camps, Individual/Small Group Training, Club, etc.)
- Acting as the primary Camp Director to execute promotion, planning, and running of the Clippers Girls Volleyball Camps in July
- Develop & implement any other external programming opportunities for the Women’s Volleyball Program, such as small group/individual training & spring/summer indoor & beach volleyball mini-leagues, tournaments, etc.

- Disciple of Jesus – growing in love for Him & obedience to Him through things like daily personal time with God, local Church attendance and involvement, engage with a spiritual mentor or accountability group
- Transformational Leader of character – growth in leadership skills and abilities
- Professional coach with continued growth through on-going education via clinics, NCCP certifications/PD points, engaging with mentor coaches, research, dialoguing with experts and working towards Master’s degree (if applicable)
- Healthy individual with holistic life priorities that will provide sustained energy to meet the ongoing demands of the role, while being able to model what that looks like for the student-athletes. This includes things like establishing and maintaining a regular weekly rhythm of Sabbath, a yearly rhythm of rest in the off-season, and healthy exercise, nutrition, and sleep habits
TEAM RELATIONSHIPS
- This position will report to the Women’s Volleyball Head Coach and work with the Athletic Department staff
- This position will assist with supervising the support staff for the Women’s Volleyball Program and will supervise the coaches/staff involved in the external programming of the Women’s Volleyball Program
